AI Traffic Management System Captures 15,000 Weekly Violations

Zimbabwe’s Electronic Traffic Management System (ETMS) is now identifying approximately 15,000 traffic offenders every week as the rollout gains momentum. This technology-driven initiative, a partnership between the Zimbabwe Republic Police and municipal authorities, marks a significant shift toward automated enforcement. The system's rapid adoption follows years of public outcry over road safety and corruption within traffic policing. Officials are now managing the logistical burden of processing high volumes of citations while addressing public concerns regarding the system's accuracy and fairness. The immediate hurdle is the integration of this digital infrastructure into a legacy legal framework that remains ill-equipped for high-frequency automated adjudication. As the system expands, the government faces the challenge of ensuring that technological enforcement does not outpace the capacity of the judicial system to handle the resulting caseload.
