CBZ Pushes Yuan Credit Lines to Sideline Dollar

CBZ Holdings is seeking yuan-denominated credit lines from Chinese lenders, moving to deepen the use of the Chinese currency in growing trade with China. The bank began settling transactions directly in CNY in June, offering an alternative to the US dollar. The shift signals a deliberate de-dollarization strategy, but analysts warn it exposes Zimbabwe to yuan volatility and Beijing's political leverage. Local businesses remain heavily reliant on the greenback, creating friction between policy goals and market reality. This move underscores Zimbabwe's deepening financial dependency on China, trading one currency hegemony for another.
