Eight Dead Following Bus and Truck Collision in Gokwe-Kwekwe

Eight people died in a collision between a Trip-Trans bus and a truck along the Gokwe-Kwekwe road after the bus driver allegedly attempted an unsafe overtake. This fatal accident adds to the growing list of road tragedies that have plagued Zimbabwe’s transport sector this year. The incident has prompted calls for more rigorous driver training and stricter oversight of public transport operators. Despite these demands, the lack of resources for traffic monitoring remains a significant hurdle for the police. The recurring nature of these accidents points to a systemic failure in road safety management and vehicle maintenance standards. The vulnerability of the transport sector is exacerbated by the state’s inability to enforce basic traffic laws, leaving commuters at constant risk on major highways.
