Fidelity Unveils Zimbabwe's First Large-Scale Residential Piped Gas Project
Fidelity Life Assurance launched Zimbabwe's first large-scale residential piped gas project, introducing a centralized underground distribution network. NewsDay reported that project developers designed the infrastructure to meet international engineering standards and local regulatory requirements. This milestone follows years of severe electricity shortages and erratic power supplies that forced urban developers to seek alternative energy solutions. Prior to this project, Zimbabwean households relied almost exclusively on imported liquefied petroleum gas cylinders or firewood for domestic energy. However, the project faces immediate systemic hurdles as volatile global gas prices and currency instability threaten the long-term affordability of the piped utility for average consumers.
