Parliament bulldozes CAB 3 amendments, clearing Mnangagwa's path to life presidency

Zimbabwe's Parliament transmitted Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 to President Mnangagwa for assent, bypassing public referendum demands and overriding Senate amendments. The National Constitutional Assembly's Lovemore Madhuku condemned the move, arguing the Bill fundamentally alters the presidency's term limits without the mandatory popular vote. Vice President Constantino Chiwenga further escalated internal ZANU-PF friction, using a biblical allegory in a viral social media video to signal that the people should have directly participated in the constitutional change. The 84-year-old Mnangagwa now has 21 days to sign the Bill into law, formalizing a power consolidation that opposition figures claim contradicts the legacy of late nationalists like Joshua Nkomo.
