Safety Night Driving

Police Urge Night Driving Ban After Fatal Highway Crashes Spike

Zimbabwe police have urged motorists to avoid night driving after a surge in fatal highway accidents linked to poor visibility, DailyNews reported. The warning, issued by police spokesperson Brighton Muronzerey, follows a series of deadly collisions that have raised alarm. The accidents have exposed gaps in road safety enforcement, vehicle roadworthiness, and driver fatigue management. Many crashes occur on poorly lit highways, where potholes, stray animals, and unroadworthy vehicles add to the danger, especially for long-distance haulage trucks. The horizon: without stricter policing and public compliance, the death toll is likely to climb, adding pressure on an already strained emergency response system. Authorities are considering enhanced patrols, roadblocks, and awareness campaigns to curb the trend, but resource constraints limit enforcement.
