Zimbabwe Energy Regulator Slashes Fuel Prices Amid Global Market Stabilization

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) reduced fuel prices this week, citing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and improved global crude oil stability, as reported by NewZimbabwe. Diesel now retails at US$1.99 per litre, while petrol has dropped to US$1.98 per litre. These adjustments follow a period of sustained high costs that burdened the local economy and logistics sector. Despite the downward shift, Zimbabwean fuel remains significantly more expensive than regional averages, maintaining pressure on transport costs. The government now faces the challenge of sustaining these lower prices against volatile global supply chains and persistent domestic currency instability.
