Zimbabwe Launches First Tilapia Value Chain Marketing Strategy to Boost Aquaculture

Zimbabwe launched its first national tilapia value chain marketing strategy under the FISH4ACP programme, aiming to increase output in the aquaculture sector. This initiative seeks to enhance food security and unlock export potential. While the strategy promises economic growth, its success hinges on overcoming existing challenges in fish farming, including feed costs, water management, and market access for small-scale producers. Industry stakeholders emphasize the need for effective implementation and support beyond policy formulation. The program targets increased production and market integration for tilapia, an important protein source. Successful implementation could lead to lower fish prices for consumers, create new jobs in farming and processing, and open new entrepreneurial opportunities, directly boosting local economies and food access.
