Zimbabwe Prosecutes High-Profile Corruption Cases to Recover Stolen Assets

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe completed 53 high-profile corruption and economic crime cases during 2025. Deputy Prosecutor General Chris Mutangadura announced that the specialized Economic Crimes and Anti-Corruption Unit successfully recovered $51.2 million in criminal assets. According to state media, the specialized unit achieved an impressive 77.94 percent case clearance rate. However, civil society groups argue that the prosecutions selectively target political dissidents while leaving top-tier ruling party elites untouched. The anti-corruption campaign's credibility hinges on whether prosecutors will target systemic graft at the highest levels of state power.
