Zimbabwe Raises Fuel Prices Despite Diesel Tax Removal

Zimbabwe's Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) recently increased fuel prices for the third time, setting petrol at US$2.23 and diesel at US$2.11 per litre, effective April 2. This occurred following Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube's announcement of diesel tax removal. The price increases, despite the tax change, contrast with neighboring countries' tax cuts. These developments place direct cost burdens on consumers and businesses, representing a significant economic burden affecting all Zimbabweans and leading to increased costs across all sectors. The situation reflects challenges in stabilizing domestic costs amid global geopolitical tensions affecting oil supplies, which will fuel inflation and impact daily living expenses nationwide.
