Zimbabwe Secures Duty-Free Access to Chinese Export Market

Zimbabwe completed all regulatory requirements to secure duty-free access to the Chinese market for qualifying domestic products. The national trade promotion organization, ZimTrade, announced that local exporters can now obtain the necessary Certificates of Origin to bypass Chinese import tariffs. This trade breakthrough follows years of bilateral negotiations aimed at reducing Zimbabwe's trade deficit with Beijing. However, local manufacturers warn that supply chain bottlenecks and high domestic production costs may prevent them from competing effectively in China. While the tariff elimination removes a major trade barrier, Zimbabwe's weak industrial capacity remains the primary obstacle to exploiting this massive market access.
