World Bank urges Zimbabwe to convert stability into formal jobs

NewZimbabwe.com reports that a recently released World Bank Group report, titled the Zimbabwe Growth and Jobs Report and based on recent economic data, urges Zimbabwe to convert its recent macroeconomic stability into formal job creation, noting that economic growth averaged almost six percent between 2021 and 2025 while local-currency inflation fell, and highlights a rare opportunity for economic transformation. The report warns that without structural reforms the informal economy, which employs the majority of Zimbabweans, will absorb the gains, and calls for targeted investments in infrastructure and education to create formal jobs, emphasizing the need for policy consistency to sustain employment growth, but warns that the tension between government rhetoric on reform and populist policies leaves the window for durable employment precariously open, and without decisive action the stability may be squandered.
