Zimbabwe Fuel Prices Highest Region Due To Taxes

Zimbabwean motorists now face the highest fuel prices in the Southern African region, with petrol reaching US$2.17 per litre. Official data reveals that a significant increase in taxes, not global conflict, is the primary driver of this spike. Taxes on petrol jumped by 64% in just two weeks. The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) cited rising costs linked to the Middle East conflict, but analysis points to heavy taxation. Presidential spokesperson George Charamba confirmed urgent consultations on a potential fuel tax reduction following public outcry. The surge in prices is expected to exacerbate economic pressures on citizens.
