Minister Opposes Gender Commission Abolition
Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Tatenda Mavetera, opposes the proposed abolishment of the Zimbabwe Gender Commission. This proposal is part of the gazetted Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. Mavetera reportedly stood as a lone voice in Cabinet against the clause. The ZANU PF Women’s League also opposes the plan. They argue the plans are retrogressive and will erode decades of hard-won progress for women.Supporters of the abolishment, primarily within ZANU PF, have not publicly stated their specific arguments. Opponents counter that scrapping the commission will erode decades of hard-won progress for women's rights and gender equality.
