Zimbabwe Expects Surplus Grain Reserves

Zimbabwe is expected to build strategic grain reserves of between 550,945 and 964,945 tonnes following a strong agricultural season. Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka presented the 2025/26 Summer Crops Marketing and 2026 Winter Production Plan in Harare, stating the country is on course to secure significant grain stocks. The surplus provides a buffer against future food shortages. The strong season follows improved rainfall and government support for farmers. The reserves will help stabilize food prices and reduce reliance on imports. The government has also announced plans to support winter wheat production to further boost food security. The core vulnerability is the dependence on weather patterns, which could reverse gains in a drought year.
