Government Buses Collect Thousands of Zimbabweans in South Africa

Zimbabwe's government deployed additional buses to Cape Town, Gqeberha, Johannesburg, and Durban to expedite the return of citizens. The repatriation effort moved 3,624 nationals back to Zimbabwe by June 26, according to official figures. The operation targets Zimbabweans sheltering at consulates and safety camps who face an unofficial June 30 deadline set by anti-immigrant pressure groups. Officials stated the entire repatriation receives full government funding. Zimbabwe's 2022 census recorded roughly 700,000 nationals residing in South Africa. The government continues expanding bus capacity to meet demand at multiple collection points.
