Zimbabwe Waives Import Duty for Returnees from South Africa

Minister Soda Zhemu announced a special duty waiver for Zimbabweans returning from South Africa, covering personal and household goods, commercial equipment, and one motor vehicle per returnee. He specified strict conditions, including a five-year ownership requirement for vehicles, to block abuse by non-qualifying individuals. The waiver eliminates import duties as a financial barrier for returnees fleeing the anti-immigrant pressure. Authorities emphasized the measure applies exclusively to verified Zimbabwean nationals undergoing official repatriation. Customs officials at border posts received the implementation directive as bus arrivals increased.
