Over seventy-eight thousand citizens return from South Africa

Information Minister Zhemu Soda confirmed on Tuesday that 78,112 Zimbabwean nationals returned from South Africa following intense anti-immigrant protests. The repatriation effort includes 21,291 citizens assisted directly by government programs and 56,832 individuals who funded their own travel. This massive movement follows rising anti-illegal immigration sentiments and organized street protests in South Africa. Border officials reported that the transit corridors also facilitated the movement of thousands of Malawian and Zambian nationals. Returning families now arrive back in the country. The sudden influx places immense socio-economic strain on the nation's fragile public infrastructure.
