Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe launches 10 million currency challenge
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe launched the Schools Monetary Policy Challenge, committing ZiG10 million to the national high school competition. Central bank governor John Mushayavanhu stated the initiative aims to build long-term financial literacy and engage students in national economic discourse. Critics dismissed the program as a public relations distraction from the ongoing depreciation of the gold-backed ZiG currency. Independent economists argued that school competitions cannot substitute for structural monetary reforms needed to stabilize the local financial market. The initiative faces immediate skepticism as public confidence in the central bank's monetary policy remains low.
