Four miners die in Chinhoyi shaft collapse

Four miners died after a shaft collapsed at Rowdy Mine in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province, trapping workers underground on July 16. Rescue teams recovered the final two bodies on Saturday morning after an overnight operation, bringing the death toll to four. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the fatal mine incident occurred at the site commonly known as Rowdy Boys 4 Mine. Artisanal mining operations continue across the province with limited safety oversight, contributing to recurring underground accidents. The core vulnerability of the artisanal mining sector remains the absence of enforceable safety standards and regular shaft inspections.
