Minister warns protesters ahead of July 31 demonstrations
Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe issued a direct warning to organizers of planned July 31 demonstrations against Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Act. Kazembe declared that security agencies stand ready to thwart any attempts to disrupt public order, stating that Zimbabwe is not a banana republic. Opposition activists and constitutional reform advocates called the protests to challenge the recently enacted amendment, which they argue undermines democratic safeguards. The government maintains that the constitutional changes reflect the will of parliament and that unlawful gatherings will face immediate law enforcement action. The core vulnerability of the protest movement lies in its capacity to mobilize public participation under explicit state threats of enforcement.
