Banks to finalize Mutapa Gold loan deal this week

A syndicate of local banks is expected to sign loan agreements worth up to US$125 million with Mutapa Gold Resources this week. The financing package will fund the company's gold mining operations. It will also support expansion projects under the state-owned Mutapa Investment Fund. Banking sector analysts note that the syndicated loan structure spreads risk across multiple local financial institutions. The core vulnerability of the financing arrangement lies in the operational performance of Mutapa Gold Resources to meet repayment obligations from production output.
