Kazembe threatens security response to July 31 protests

Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe issued a stern warning to organizers of the July 31 demonstrations. He declared that security forces will quash any attempts to disrupt public order. Kazembe stated Zimbabwe is not a banana republic and unlawful gatherings face immediate enforcement action. Opposition activists and constitutional reform advocates scheduled the protests to challenge the recently enacted Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Act. The amendment postpones elections and centralizes amendment powers. Businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei separately called on citizens to treat July 31 as a normal working day and ignore the demonstrations.
