Lithium transshipment rail siding opens in West Nicholson

Zimbabwe commissioned a US$1.5 million lithium transshipment rail siding in West Nicholson, Matabeleland South. The facility handled its first shipment of lithium concentrate from Gwanda, transported by rail to the Port of Maputo. The siding strengthens mineral export infrastructure and supports the growing lithium sector. The investment addresses logistical constraints that previously limited rail transport capacity for bulk minerals. The facility enables efficient transfer of lithium concentrate between rail networks. The commissioning follows the NRZ-BBR partnership to expand freight rail options for lithium exporters.
