Residents sue Chitungwiza over sewage crisis

Chitungwiza Residents Trust and eight residents filed a High Court application seeking an order compelling Chitungwiza Municipality to repair its collapsing sewer system. The application, filed against the municipality and the Minister of Local Government, argues that years of sewage overflows have violated residents' constitutional rights to health, dignity, and a clean environment. The residents want the court to order an infrastructure overhaul and compel the council to act. The sewage crisis has persisted for years, with overflows contaminating the environment and posing health risks. The court action seeks to force the council to address the health hazard.
