Ebola outbreak worst ever in DR Congo

The World Health Organization declared the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo the worst in the country's history. As of 30 July, there were 3,605 confirmed cases and 1,587 deaths, a fatality rate of 44%. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus. This surpasses previous outbreaks in scale and severity. The high fatality rate and ongoing transmission pose significant challenges for containment efforts. Health workers face logistical hurdles in remote areas. The WHO called for increased international support to combat the outbreak.
