Lake Kariba boat disaster kills 15
An overloaded District Development Fund boat capsized on Lake Kariba on Tuesday, killing at least 15 people. Rescue teams pulled 77 survivors from the water, with dozens still missing as authorities described the vessel as dangerously overloaded. Kariba MP Shine Gwangwaba confirmed losing his sister and 15 other relatives in the disaster. The boat, named Mbuya Nehanda, carried 95 passengers when a violent wave slammed into it around midday. Emergency crews from the Zimbabwe National Army and police launched a search operation that continued through the night. Lake Kariba has seen several boating accidents in recent years, but this is one of the deadliest on record.
