Remittances hit $2.45 billion, UK top source

Zimbabwe received $2.45 billion in diaspora remittances in 2025, up 14 percent from the previous year, with the UK overtaking South Africa as the largest source. The central bank reported that remittances now account for over 20 percent of the country's foreign currency inflows, surpassing earnings from tobacco and gold exports. The UK contributed nearly $600 million, reflecting the size of the Zimbabwean diaspora in Britain. South Africa, historically the dominant source, dropped to second place amid tightening immigration laws and economic pressures. Zimbabwe's diaspora population has grown significantly over the past decade.
