27 killed in Chivhu highway crash

A head-on collision between a commuter omnibus and a haulage truck at the 130-km peg along the Harare-Masvingo highway near Chivhu killed 27 people and injured seven on August 28, 2026. President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a state of disaster under the Civil Protection Act to mobilize resources. The accident involved congregants of the African Apostolic Church (Mwazha) returning from a gathering.
